Composed between 1875-76, Swan Lake tells the tragic love story of Odette and Siegfried. Their story animates this powerful ballet tour de force, which was featured prominently in the Oscar winning film, Black Swan .
Artistic director, Bengt Jörgen is famous for attention to choreographic detail and history while offering visionary new settings for seminal ballet pieces. With some of the best ballet dancers in North America, this presentation of Swan Lake will offer an exquisitely graceful and poetic interpretation of one of the most significant ballets of all time.
Ballet Jörgen Canada previously brought us stunning productions of The Nutcracker and Anastasia.
NEWS - JULY 24, 2012 - 25TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR LAUNCHED
Artistic Director Bengt Jörgen, "FEATHERS ARE RUFFLING in our studios, and our hallways are buzzing as Ballet Jörgen Canada gears up for our exciting 25th Anniversary Season!
Hard to believe that a quarter of a century has passed since we appeared on the Canadian dance scene. Born out of a desire to create original works, provide a creative forum for artists and to make ballet accessible to all Canadians, we have come a long way!
We have increasingly moved to not only recreate our classics in a way that is respectful of tradition, but also in a way that is engaging for our modern audience. We’ve really shifted towards trying to speak about Canada and reflect Canadian identity in our work. There’s no reason why Swan Lake has to be staged in some imaginary medieval European place. This version of Swan Lake will be set in and around the Fortress of Louisbourg, Nova Scotia, and so people in our audiences will see Canadian heritage intrinsically reflected in the piece.
I am so excited to do this work and to be able to do it with the kind of incredible dancers that we have. Swan Lake has an evocative and inspiring quality that makes it such a pleasure to work on, and I'm excited about transferring that feeling to the people watching it."
