THEATRE IN EDUCATION Series receives support from Freedom 55
Niagara region students will once again enjoy greater access to Centre for the Arts, Brock University's Theatre in Education Series this season thanks to a $10,000 contribution on behalf of Freedom 55 Financial™, the financial security planning division of London Life.
This contribution, made through the national corporate citizenship program of Great‐West Life, London Life and Canada Life, provides discounted tickets to all students in senior kindergarten through Grade 12 for the 2012‐2013 Theatre in Education Series. It also supports a full ticket-subsidy program and in‐school workshops with professional artists for students in disadvantaged areas.
“The Centre for the Arts seeks to build and strengthen relationships and make Theatre in Education more accessible to all Niagara students, regardless of income or regional location,” says Sara Palmieri, Centre for the Arts Sales and Marketing Manager.
The Theatre in Education Series has presented 43 national and international companies and 71 performances since its inaugural 2004‐05 season. Over the past eight seasons, 25,613 Niagara students have had the opportunity to experience the live performing arts in the theatres at Brock University. While attendance has steadily grown, ticket prices remain a financial barrier for many students. Through this financial contribution, more students will be able to share ideas and interpretations of performances and in turn, see and learn about the world in a whole new way.
“When you live in a small community, good-quality arts performances are often hard to come by,” says Amy Converset, Port Colborne Secondary School teacher. “Brock's Centre for the Arts not only provides this much-needed quality and professionalism, but also make it fully accessible to all students who may not have these kinds of opportunities.”
As an Imagine Caring Company, Great‐West Life, London Life and Canada Life donate a minimum of one per cent of average pre‐tax profits to non‐profit, charitable and community organizations each year, including many arts and culture projects. Their commitment to building Stronger Communities Together™ is further reflected in the commitment and compassion of their staff and financial security advisors to give back to the communities where they live and work.
“We believe in the power of the arts to enrich lives and we’re pleased to help make the Centre’s Theatre in Education Series more affordable for young people,” says Richard Kemp, Regional Director with Freedom 55 Financial and a Theatre in Education volunteer. “This season’s performances and in‐school workshops will result in a lot of smiling faces.”
For over 42 years the Centre for the Arts, Brock University has presented critically acclaimed professional music, dance, theatre, comedy and family shows, sustaining its reputation as one of the premier presenting venues in Canada.
